Tekst piosenki

[Verse 1: Kid Pharaoh]
I remember in my primary school days
I was always the weird one that the kids called names
Always that one kid that could never fit in
But they say the world needs people that are different
And they said "You know what? You just gotta be you
You can do anything that you try and set your mind to"
At the time see, I didn't know what those words meant
But a couple years later all the pieces would connect

Dad was working on some stuff he was doing for his work
And one day he got a major call from his company
Said "The last step you gotta do for your medicine degree
You gotta practice medicine somewhere rurally"
For us this was everything, so we had to go there
7 hours from home, in the middle of no where
He said "Man, don't worry, this is just for a couple years
The day I'm done I promise we'll be right outta here"
But that's not how the story went, not even a little bit
7 horrid years we spent, we were so sick of it
In just the first year man, things weren't going well
And you ain't even heard about the dark side of hell
You ain't heard about the shit I went through at school
Every single day I went I was ridiculed
Just for being different
Man that shit was not fair
White farming people were the only people out there
They treated me so cruel
Man that shit was not cool
But you get used to it when you been to 9 schools
See dog, I don't even know what was wrong
I know we all different but can't we just get along

Cause I listen to hip hop and you listen to rock
Stupid little differences but I'll give it a shot
I'll try to fit in, I'mma make these years good
If I be like them maybe they'll think I'm cool
If I talk like them in their country accent
Maybe they'll chill and stop calling me a faggot
And a nigga, and a stupid camel rider and a terrorist
"Go back to your country you stupid little immigrant"
Damn, I don't even know what to do
I've tried everything I can to fit in and be cool
What if I played sports they like? Maybe that'll do it
But I sucked so bad I thought man don't do it

To help survive, Dad went and got me an iPod
My cousin got me music that he thought I would like so
I had a listen, I heard Jesus Walks
Just one of the things I have to thank Yeezy for
Ever since then, I fell in love with rap music
I studied the game and everything to do with it
Then I thought to myself, I could probably do that
So I grabbed my pen and paper and I got straight to that
Learning and learning and I was writing all the time
About how to make music, how to make this thing mine
I found Garageband man I started dropping those beats
Hip hop kit, a synth, and some hot ass strings
Locked myself in my room, I made beats 'til noon
Then I wrote for a while then record all afternoon
With a singstar mic I used on my Playstation
Getting better every day and having dreams of making it
To the big time and the life I see on TV
And I felt so alive like no one could stop me
And when I went back to school, I quit trying to fit in
And I was just my damn self, and I don't need to fix it
I don't need to act like something that I'm not
Just to please some little motherfuckers on the block
Music taught me a lot
Taught me to be myself
Taught me to never give up and I'll always do well
See, hip hop taught me shit you can't learn at Harvard
Since I found music these kids never start shit
I'm my own person now, don't care what they say
I'm on my way to the top so get out of my way
I was a needle in a haystack, I still am
But the difference is I embrace the fact that I am me
Be your own person always, and you gon' see
That happiness will come your way, you don't need to be
Somebody you're not, you're great the way you are
Never let 'em bring you down man cause you're a star

Said I remember in my primary school days
I was always the weird one that the kids called names
Always that one kid that could never fit in
But they say the world needs people that are different
And they say you know what, you just gotta be you
You can do anything that you try and set your mind to
At the time see I didn't know what those words meant
But ever since I found music, all the pieces just connect
