FYS: Storytelling, Identity, and Social Change - Alateen [tekst, tłumaczenie i interpretacja piosenki]

Alateen was a project that first started to assist the young teenagers in the society who were being affected by their alcoholic parents, friends and family surrounding them. It Co founded over 100 years ago by by ladies by the name of Lois Wilson and Anne B. in 1951 to help the friends and family of the alcoholics and it is a internationally known fellowship program that offers full recovery. This fellowship program did not begin off of one incident in particular. There was no "Big Boom" occurrence, it was just the repetition of the family and friends being affected by the alcoholics surrounding them. Al Anon claims that becoming an alcoholic is a family illness passed down through generation. It is not an intervention program the main goal is not to stop another's drinking problem it is just a place to get together and feel comfortable and talk about the things one is experiencing

This project is all about making the surroundings of those alcoholics a better place. It works by holding weekly or monthly meetings to check in and talk about particular problems or things one needs help with. During these meetings they commonly talk about their issues and the meeting sizes are kept small ranging anywhere from five to twenty five in an attendance of an average meeting. Keeping low meeting numbers can maintain a consistent to comfort level and makes everyone feel open to share their stories without feeling anxiety.The ones who decide whether the stories are added on the website or not are the ones who are attending these meetings and want to share their stories or share their input online

The primary intended audience for the Alateen website is a site where the fellow teens of the alcoholics can go and post there problems and talk about what they need help with and how they can get advice. The people participating in this project as a storyteller are the people who are at risk whether it be their home lives or their situations with their friends. This website is intended for worldwide use but not many know about it unless they have been introduced to it through the alcoholism of their parents friends or other close family members. The website is obviously hit pretty hard by the victims and people in need of help, therefore their exact intended audience would be those who are in need of alcoholics advice or help

All in all this project of Alateen is hoping to accomplish a certain level of comfort and a stress free atmosphere where the victims of the alcoholics can go share their stories with others and get advice. Alateen is meant to accomplish spiritual mental and personal growth and envelopment throughout one's time is put in their. One often comes to the Al Anon fellowship program to get their friends and family to stop drinking but that is often not the way it works. Often times Al Anon is solely there to provide the victim with emotional stability and background support. With all of the things that some of these kids have been put through, it is apparent that more often than they need just someone to talk to and essentially lean on. A lot of these kids were born into these situations and they have no choice to get there way out of it and that is what the Al Anon is the program that they look forward to helping them out of their troubles
